Dryer Vent Cleaning Cost Explained: $99 and $15 Per Foot

How our dryer vent cleaning is priced: $99 covers up to 10 feet, then $15 per extra foot. How to estimate your vent length and total cost.

Dryer Vent Cleaning Cost Explained: $99 and $15 Per Foot

Dryer vent cleaning is one of the simplest home services to price, once you know how it's measured. Some companies quote a flat fee, and others only quote on site. Our approach is based on the one thing that actually changes the work: how long your vent is.

Here's how the pricing works, how to estimate your own vent length, and what affects the final number.

The pricing in one sentence

Dryer vent cleaning at Moment Air Duct Cleaning Kent is $99 for up to 10 feet of vent, plus $15 for each additional foot. An inspection is included.

That's the whole formula. The length of the vent is what moves the number.

What counts as "vent length"

Vent length is the distance the exhaust travels from the back of the dryer to the cap on the outside of your home. That includes:

  • The short transition duct behind the dryer
  • The duct inside the wall, floor, ceiling or crawlspace
  • Any vertical sections going up or down
  • The run to the exterior cap on a wall or roof

It does not mean the straight-line distance from the dryer to the outside wall. A vent that goes up a wall, across a ceiling and out the side of the house can be much longer than it looks.

Cost examples

Here's how the math works for a few common layouts. These are illustrations, not quotes. Your actual total depends on your vent's measured length.

Example layoutExample lengthCost
Dryer against an outside wall, short run straight out6 ft$99
Dryer on an inside wall, vent through the crawlspace10 ft$99
Upstairs laundry, vent across the attic to a side wall16 ft$99 + 6 x $15 = $189
Second-floor laundry, vent up through the roof20 ft$99 + 10 x $15 = $249

How to estimate your own vent length

You can get a rough idea before you call.

  1. Find the exterior cap. Walk around the outside of the house while the dryer runs on heat, and feel for warm air. In townhomes, it may be on the roof.
  2. Note where the dryer sits. Is it against an outside wall, on an inside wall, upstairs, or in a basement?
  3. Picture the route. Does the vent likely go straight out, down into a crawlspace, or up into an attic?
  4. Measure the straight parts you can reach. Then add a few feet for each change in direction.

A rough estimate is fine. It just helps both of us know whether you're likely to be near the base price or above it.

Long vents and manufacturer limits

Longer vents cost more to clean, but they also clog more often. The U.S. Fire Administration lists clothes taking longer to dry and a dryer that gets very hot among the signs a vent needs attention. Long runs with several bends tend to reach that point sooner than short, straight ones.

Your dryer's installation manual lists the maximum vent length the manufacturer allows, and that maximum gets shorter with each elbow. If your vent is long, follow those limits. If it seems longer than the manual allows, that's a question for a qualified installer or HVAC contractor, since rerouting a vent isn't part of a cleaning.

What's included, and what isn't

Included:

  • Cleaning from the dryer connection to the outside cap
  • Removing lint buildup inside the vent
  • Checking the line and the outside flap
  • An inspection, so we can point out anything we notice

Not included:

  • Dryer repairs or appliance service
  • Rerouting, replacing or extending the vent
  • Roof repairs around a roof cap

If we notice a crushed transition hose or a cap that won't open, we'll tell you so you can decide what to do.

Is it worth paying for?

Lint left in a vent is a fire hazard, and a restricted vent makes your dryer work harder. The U.S. Fire Administration notes that failure to clean dryers is a leading cause of home clothes dryer fires. Cleaning the lint screen before or after every load is the first step. A professional cleaning handles the part of the vent you can't reach.
